Why the traditional oxford is outdated

Posted by Ian Anderson on

Traditional oxford button-downs are outdated.

The reason they are outdated is because they have been made the old-fashioned way for hundreds of years using woven cotton that simply doesn't allow for breathability or comfort.

In Scotland, during the 19th century, the oxford shirt was created.

At that time, fabric mills were experimenting with different weaves and started producing their own woven fabrics that became known to us as the oxford cloth.

Polo players, in England, first adopted the long-sleeved oxford shirts to wear during their matches. Consequently, the established elite in the United States adopted this style and set industry norms to where the majority of oxford button-downs are made with woven oxford cloth.

Now... while traditional oxfords do look great, they are not the most comfortable shirts available.
